On Sunday, opposition leader Sam Rainsy indicated that he will issue additional documents related to the Cambodian-Viet border this month. The additional documents were gathered from experts in France by Sam Rainsy himself.

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy plans to issue additional documents related to the Cambodian-Viet border this month, following his contacts with geography and map experts in France.

Sam Rainsy made this declaration over the phone from Paris, France, to party members who gathered at the party headquarters in Phnom Penh on Sunday afternoon. Sam Rainsy told about 100 party members that, based on determinations made by experts, the border stakes he uprooted in Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province, as well as a number of border stakes located nearby, are truly located inside Cambodian territories, i.e. they were planted between 300 to 500-meter inside Cambodia.

Sam Rainsy charged that these border posts are not border posts, but rather invasion posts. The opposition leader, who is currently in France, added that, at the end of this month, the Cambodian people will learn who is truly nationalist and who is not.

sVar Kim Hong, the hang-ranking Cambodian government official in charge of border, retorted to Sam Rainsy on Sunday, saying that, if Sam Rainsy has new documents related to border problem, it is good and Sam Rainsy should show these documents to the court directly.

Sam Rainsy’s declaration came 2 days after the Phnom Penh municipal court charged him on Friday for diffusion of false information, and for falsifying public documents related to border problem.

A few months ago, Sam Rainsy was sentenced by the Svay Rieng provincial court to 2-year of jail time for destruction of public property and for incitation to racial discrimination stemming from his uprooting of stakes along the Cambodian-Viet border in Svay Rieng province in October 2009.
