Cambodian NGOs plan to organize a meeting to commemorate and to express the anger against the 2nd anniversary of the Thai invasion of Cambodia along the border near Preah Vihear temple which took place on 15 July 2008. One high-ranking government official welcomed the plan to hold the “Anger Day” against Thai invasion on Cambodia on 15 July. However, this government official also warned the NGOs not to profit from this occasion to serve the interest of Cambodia’s opposition party.

Rong Chhun, representative of the Cambodia Watchdog Council (CWC) and President of the Cambodia Independent Teachers’ Association (CITA), announced that 15 July is the date for the Anger Day against the Thai invasion of Cambodia and that it will be held in front of the public park located in front of the old building of the National Assembly which now houses the Supreme Court.

Rong Chhun said that at the beginning of July 2010, he will send a letter to the Phnom Penh city authority to inform about them on the commemoration of this date, although, this is not to ask for an authorization from the city.

NOTE: Such an event should be held against the Viet as well because the Viets are also active in invading our lands just like that of Thailand. Here.

Cambodian troops inspect one of the border posts in dispute.

Thai troops have ordered the Boeng Trokuon border checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province closed on Sunday 13th June after they got angry with Cambodian troops who uprooted border post no. 37 and 38 they had earlier planted, reports Kampuchea Thmey.

Mr. Nou Yath, chief of Boeng Trokuon Checkpoint, said that a few days earlier Thai troops had unilaterally planted border post No. 37 and 38 at the old location which was disputed by the Cambodian side. He added that Thai soldiers planted the border posts in order to build a village for Thai people to live. The Cambodian side said the Thai side had violated the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding and ordered Border Guard Unit No. 807 to uproot the posts.

Mr. Nou Yath said on 13th June, a group of Thai soldiers came to stop Cambodian farmers from farming on their lands near border post No. 34 and 35 and then they closed the border at that point.

Mr. Sar Chamrong, Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, confirmed that Thai troops had closed the border, but re-opened it the same day after negotiation. However, Mr. Chamrong did not elaborate on what decision was reached at the negotiation.

Boeng Trokuon Checkpoint is situated 50 kilometres north of Poipet International Checkpoint in O’Bei Choan commune in Thmor Puok district of Banteay Meanchey province. It is an important point of border trades between the two countries where Cambodian rice, cassava and other primary produce are exported to Thailand, as well as an important point for Thailand’s exports of numerous products to Cambodia.Here.here.here

Thai troops’ brutality

Thai troops beat villagers: officer

A MILITARY commander in Banteay Meanchey province said Tuesday that he is preparing to file a complaint with the Thailand-

Cambodia border relations office in Poipet after Thai soldiers allegedly beat three Cambodian villagers who had crossed the border to work on a sugarcane plantation, causing two to fall unconscious.

Neang Saret, a deputy battalion commander based at Poipet, said that the two villagers had crossed the border illegally into Sa Kaew province on May 7 when they encountered the Thai soldiers.

“After arresting the villagers, [the soldiers] took off their clothes and handcuffed them and beat them with a stick,” he said. “They have kept them since the morning, and released them on the evening of the same day.”

The following day, Neang Saret said, the two men joined another villager in crossing the border to look for vegetables. Again they encountered Thai soldiers, and again they were beaten, he said. He added that two of them suffered serious injuries during the second altercation.

“They live close to the border, and they have nothing to do besides entering Thailand for work, even though they have learned that it is dangerous,” Neang Saret said, and added that he planned to file a complaint with the border relations office soon.

Soum Chankea, Banteay Meanchey provincial coordinator for the rights group Adhoc, identified the two men who were beaten unconscious as Ros Sary, 35, and Nou Ban, 30. He said the man who accompanied them on the second cross-border excursion – and who sustained only light injuries – was known only as Det, 35.

“The information I got is that these villagers entered Thailand to seek rattan and vegetables,” Soum Chankea said.y

Veerachon Sukondhadhpatipak, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Army, said Tuesday that he had heard nothing about either altercation.

NOTEThis brutality must be stopped and Thai troops should have understood that those Cambodian people are living close to the border lines of the two countries and they have a very close relation with Thai people who live along the border, too. Their relation and economic dependence are more considerable to push them to work for each another daily without caring about the artificial and bureaucratic permission from the authority. So why don’t these soldiers just let them go in and go out freely to help each another on a daily basis? The thing is the Thai farmers need helpers and the Cambodian farmers can provide forces and when they are cooperated, THEY ALL AT LAST MAKE THE INCOME FOR THEIR LIVING.

Thai royal asks Thai Parliament to stop debate on Khmer-Thai border issue

With or without negotiations with Thailand, Preah Vihear temple belongs to Cambodia!

Thailand’s ASTV Manager Online news media reported on 07 May that Princess Walvipa Charoonroj sent a letter to the

Thai Parliament asking the latter not to debate on the Cambodian-Thai border topic. Tith Sothea, mouthpiece of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of Cambodia’s Council of Ministers, criticized this Thai princess, saying that she is countercurrent to the desire by the two countries that want to see a rapid end to the border dispute.

A Thai royal by the name of Princess (Mam Luong) Walvipa Charoonroj wrote a letter to the Thai Parliament to cancel the debate on the Cambodian-Thai border issue during its plenary session. This information was reported by Thailand’s ASTV Manager Online news media on 07 may 2010.

The Thai princess explained that the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, even though it is abiding by the law, is an issue in which Cambodia has the advantage over Thailand, and at the end, the result will show the trampling on history in the border demarcation at Preah Vihear temple. The temple which was the topic of a lawsuit between Cambodia and Thailand at The Hague International Court of Justice, was given back to Cambodia in 1962.

Regarding the request made by Princess Walvipa Charonroj, Tith Sothea, mouthpiece of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of Cambodia’s Council of Ministers, commented that the prince is a Thai extremist who is preventing the border resolution negotiations between the two countries. Tith Sothea added that the princess’ action is counterculture to the desire of both the Cambodian and Thai governments which want to see a rapid end to the dispute and a restart of the development and the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Koy Kuong, spokesman for the ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented that the claim that the prince made about Cambodia having the advantage over Thailand is the reality because Cambodia can base on internationally-recognized documents and maps.

It should be noted that there were numerous negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand [on the border dispute]. During these rounds of negotiations, the two sides took note on a number of agreements that Thailand must obtain the approval from its Parliament on the outcome of these discussions. However, since the beginning of the border discussions, no negotiation documents was debated by the Thai Parliament yet, this issue led to a dead end in the border negotiations between the two countries.

Cambodian embassy rejects new Thai border allegations

THE Cambodian embassy in Bangkok has rejected accusations from the Thai

Ministry of Foreign Affairs that repair work completed by Cambodian troops on monks’ quarters at a pagoda near Preah Vihear temple violated Thai sovereignty.

In a letter to the Thai foreign ministry dated Tuesday, the Cambodian embassy said the repair work had been conducted entirely within the territory of Cambodia, calling accusations to the contrary “fabrications”.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Koy Kuong said Wednesday that the statement was prompted by a note sent last month by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok.

“They said that the repairs on the monks’ quarters at the pagoda were in their territory,” Koy Kuong said. “They stupidly accused us.”

The embassy’s letter followed a similar communiqué written last Friday, in which it denounced accusations that a construction project near the Ta Krabey temple in Oddar Meanchey province had impinged on Thai territory.

Srey Doek, commander of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Division 3 in Preah Vihear province, said repairs on the dilapidated dormitories at the Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda began about six months ago and took only a few days.

“Even Thai soldiers who have visited the pagoda and prayed with the monks there have recognised that the monks’ quarters are in disrepair,” Srey Doek said.

Thai troops have periodically occupied the pagoda since tensions erupted in the area in July 2008 over the listing of Preah Vihear temple as a Unesco World Heritage site for Cambodia. Prime Minister Hun Sen mentioned this occupation in February as part of a tirade against the government of Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

“Abhisit, will you swear on having all your family members be killed in a plane crash … that your soldiers did not come to invade Cambodia at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak?” Hun Sen said in a speech to troops in Oddar Meanchey province.

“Do you dare to swear on magic that could break your neck, on a plane crash or a dissolution of the countries, that your soldiers did not invade Cambodia’s territory on July 15, 2008?”

Officials at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not be reached for comment.

14 Thai troops who moved in to occupy a strip of Phnom

Trop Mountain on Friday, the 16th, had steadfastly refused to withdraw from the area, despite strong protest from Cambodian troops, reports Radio France Internationale.

Those 14 Thai troops had sneaked in to occupy the area when Cambodian troops were preparing to celebrate the Khmer New Year.

Gen. Chum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian Defence Ministry, said local commanders from both sides were holding talks, but up to Sunday afternoon those Thai troops still refused to withdraw. Local Cambodian commanders said they will resolve the issue locally first before sending the case to the national level. Gen. Chum Socheat said those 14 Thai soldiers said they are ready to withdraw if given orders by their top commanders. However, experience in the past show that this is just a ploy, he said.

Note: This act is clearly the act of provoking conflict or invasion. Cambodia soldiers must tighten their stand in protecting the territorial integrity of the country by not allowing the siamese troops to move anywhere at will. So pls stop playing soft or negotiating with them if they trespass into our territory  or any disputed areas without informing us. Just shoot at them since commanders of the two sides have met many times and already made clear conditions and agreements  for  the troop movements and the banned areas along the borders.

MP Sam Rainsy

I  would like to inform all interested persons that I am exposing tomorrow,

at a press conference in Phnom Penh, additional evidence based on thorough historical and geographic research and modern technologies that confirms that Cambodia is victim of border encroachment. I defy anybody, especially competent government officials from both Cambodia and Vietnam, to prove the contrary. I am sure all independent experts all over the world, if asked by any interested institution, would confirm that I am right. The truth on this issue will have far reaching political implications. This is why the Hun Sen government is so nervous about this case as reflected by the way they handled  today’s sham and speedy trial and their threat to prosecute anybody who would publicise the evidence I am exposing.
